The PB Dems monthly meeting for June will be held at the Pacific Beach Recreation Center.
We have planned another hot topic meeting for June. Professor Joel Day and Navy veteran Shawn VanDiver will present on the following: The Democratic Party and National Security: Resisting, Reframing, Rebuilding. You really won’t want to miss these great speakers. There will also be a recap of the June 5th Primary Election results.
Remember that everyone is welcome to attend our monthly meetings. If you are a club member, bring a friend along this month. Coffee and water are always provided along with snacks. Feel free to contribute by bringing your favorite snack to share.

Dr. Joel Day has over 15 years of global and local public policy experience, and currently is a professor of international relations at the University of San Diego as well as an advisor on hate crimes, extremism, and homeland security issues at the City of San Diego. Day’s work on counterterrorism has appeared in top scholarly journals and he has briefed Congress, DHS, and the Pentagon on national security issues. In Democratic politics, Day has worked on citywide, congressional, and presidential races, and his commentary has appeared in media including Al Jazeera, NPR, Fox, CBS, ABC, and NBC affiliates, the San Diego Union Tribune, the Hill, the Boston Globe, and the Associated Press. Day holds a PhD from the University of Denver, is a Fellow at the Truman National Security Project, and has taught at the University of Massachusetts, the University of Denver, and Colorado State University. He was a David L. Boren National Security Act Scholar, and a national collegiate debate champion. In 2017, Day was named “40 Under 40 in San Diego” by San Diego Metro Magazine.
Shawn VanDiver is a 12-year Navy Veteran, serves on the board of the Women’s Museum of California, and is a Co-Founder and Director of the Truman National Security Project San Diego Chapter. He also serves on several boards and committees at the local, state, and national levels focusing on human trafficking, national security, and civic engagement. He has published on national security issues in local, national, and international outlets, including the San Diego Union Tribune, USA Today, and The Guardian. Shawn is President of VanDiver Consulting serving clients in the region and around the nation in addition to serving as faculty for San Diego State University. He attended National University and the Naval Postgraduate School, earning degrees and certificates in Domestic Security Management, Homeland Security and Safety Engineering, and Information Systems and Operations.
